Rosarium Philosophorum; when you make the two into one..

When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter the Kingdom.

The combination of substances and the union of opposites is a key element in the alchemical process. This is often represented as a mystical marriage of the lunar element representing the feminine, Sophia (wisdom) and the solar element, the male, Logos (knowledge/reason). These two opposing elements meet and are joined in what is known as the ‘chemical wedding’. This union creates something bigger and more powerful than the individual parts – the perfect integration of male and female energies – the hermaphrodite.

  2. Thanks HF!!
Yes, I prefer to think of it as an ongoing task! It sounds like we have been on the same journey, you and I… I started down this path around 20 years ago myself and it’s lovely when you cross paths with someone else on the journey. I like to imagine all those of us on this journey, all on our own individual path but often intersecting with others who can give us pointers when we are ready to go down a particular route. I do wish all of humanity would join in on the journey. I like to post little signposts like this one now and again in case someone is ready to “see” it 🙂
